The phrase on the chest, “Lord of Five Rivers,” was not just praise. It was how contemporaries understood Maharaja Ranjit Singh — the ruler who managed to gather the land between the five great rivers of Punjab under one authority, after centuries of invasion and fragmentation.
Along the bottom runs the walled city of Lahore. This is not a random cityscape. Lahore was the pulse of his empire: court, treasury, and spectacle in one place. From these walls came decisions that shaped trade, diplomacy, and war. The city on the hem anchors the piece in everyday life — streets, people, movement — the world that his rule was meant to protect.
Across the back, the map of Ranjit Singh’s empire sits over the shoulders. That placement mirrors the way responsibility rested on him: frontiers stretching from the passes in the northwest to the plains in the east. The map doesn’t shout; it hangs like an archival document, a quiet record of how far the Khalsa Raj once reached.
On the bicep, three diamonds circle the arm. They recall the way Ranjit Singh wore the Koh-i-Noor: set into an armlet rather than a crown. Power carried on the arm, close to the body, not paraded on the head. The three stones read like a small shrine to that lost jewel and to the idea of kingship that treated wealth as a responsibility, not only an ornament.
Taken together, the hoodie reads like a layered panel from a museum wall:
title of the ruler, capital at the base, territory on the back, regalia on the arm.
A whole chapter of Punjab’s history, condensed into one garment.
